About us - Selkirk Mountain Experience
It is all about guiding guests and sharing our great enthusiasm for the snow-covered mountains, the forested steep valleys, heavily glaciated alpine peaks and the, in summer, lush blooming meadows with jade alpine lakes and wild waterfalls at Durrand Glacier in the Northern Selkirk Mountains of BC.
Homesick for climbing mountains, reaching outstanding peaks, enjoying the large unfolding panorama and experiencing the rich reward of skiing down all these superb powder-slopes, unspoiled by old tracks that cut their pristine and elegant shape into many parts.
Selkirk Mountain Experience was the first ski-touring company in the world to establish two privately owned lodges amidst spectacular glaciated alpine terrain and on an exclusive land tenure.

 Selkirk Rex
The first Selkirk Rex was spotted in 1987 as a curly-coated, dilute calico female kitten in an otherwise normal straight haired litter of non-pedigree cats.
It was soon clear that this was a new breed and the name of Selkirk was chosen for the breed, after the Selkirk Mountains in Wyoming.
The Selkirk Rex, the third Rex cat to appear on the North American show bench, is markedly different from the two Rex breeds that preceded it - the Cornish Rex and the Devon Rex.

Cats and Kittens Magazine Selkirk Rex Breed Profile
When Jeri Newman of Livingston, Montana, introduced the Selkirk rex to the world in the late 1980s, she explained that breed was the namesake of a mountain range in Wyoming, close to the town where the matriarch of these curly-haired cats had been born.
The Selkirk's renown as the first cat breed named after a mountain range was short lived, however, because some stickler for detail pointed out that the Selkirk range extends from northern Idaho into southeastern British Columbia.
The Selkirk possesses all the types of hair normally found on cats - guard, awn and down - and it comes in shorthair and longhair varieties, unlike the other rexes, which are shorthair-only breeds.
