His son John Richardson Selwyn (1844-1898) was born in New Zealand, educated at Eton and Cambridge (as were many members of the Selwyn family before).
Selwyn College, University of Cambridge, was erected by public subscription in his memory, and incorporated in 1882.
Bishop Selwyn's special burial tomb and monument are housed in Lichfield Cathedral, as is that of his friend the Venerable George Hodson, 1788-1855 (Archdeacon of Stafford, Canon Residentiary and Chancellor of Lichfield Cathedral; whose great-grandson was named Selwyn - christened Selwyn in 1885 after Bishop Selwyn).

Each Fall semester the Cambridge Coordinator will offer, on the Oxford campus, HST 380 (Cambridge and the British Tradition); students are required to complete this class before participating in the Selwyn Program (unless they are in Luxembourg or a comparable program).

There was much to savour in the trust’s first concert in Scotland, given by the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, Onyx Brass and organist Daniel Hyde, under the insightful direction of conductor Nicholas Cleobury.
Alan Charlton’s Jubilate Deo had incredible presence but showed how difficult it is to balance these forces, whereas John McCabe’s Songs of the Garden is judiciously scored, with brass lighting the way and the organ firming the ground for beautifully iridescent choral writing.
Selwyn College Chapel Choir admitted females to its ranks in the 1970s and their silvery tone gives the choir a sound of unostentatious magnificence.
