Ineffective gun ban finally lifted: 9/ 19/ 2004
Kerry recently was presented a gift of a Remington Model 11-87 automatic shotgun by a labor union, which he described as a nice "piece." The gun however, is a gas-operated, self-loading automatic with a pistol grip and would be illegal under his very own ban --buffoonery at its best.
It means that unless that self-loading shotgun has a straight English stock with no pistol grip, you can no longer buy it or transfer the one you have.
The ban merely redefined "assault weapons" as those semi-automatic firearms with certain military-style features resembling fully automatic machine guns.

In the United States in 1896, the first American gun designer to develop self-loading semi-automatic pistols was John Browning, whose models were manufactured by Colt in the US, and by the Belgian Fabrique Nationale in Europe.
Many modern semi-automatic pistols are double action only (DAO); that is, once a round is chambered, each trigger pull will both arm a striker or firing pin, and will additionally release the spring-loaded striker or firing pin to fire a cartridge in one continuous motion.
