Before Wisconsin was a state, it was part of the Canadian Province of Quebec, the Territory Northwest of the Ohio River (1788-1800), Indiana Territory (1800-1809), Illinois Territory (1809-1818), Michigan Territory (1818-1836) and Wisconsin Territory (1836-1848).
Wood County was set off from Portage County in 1856 and was named after Judge Joseph Wood who came here from Illinois in 1848.
Wood Township was organized on February 10, 1874 and was reorganized in 1901.

DAVID B., farmer, P. Attica, was born in Venice Township, this county, December 4, 1838, son of Maurice and Hannah (Davis) Moore, the former a native of New Jersey, of German descent, the latter a native of Wales.

Hamilton County: Approximately 400 provisional ballots allegedly were rejected because they were cast in the wrong precinct, despite the fact that they were cast at the right polling station (i.e., at a polling station with more than one precinct).
For example, in Vinton County, a unilateral decision was made to pick a county for the 3% manual recount test simply because its vote total was closest to 3% of the county total.
In Morrow County, a decision as to what is "random" was made without input from recount observers after a county election official called Secretary of State Blackwell's office and was told that her interpretation of "random" was the correct one, despite Green Party recount observer protests.

The first land offices in Wisconsin were established under an act of Congress approved June 26, 1834, creating additional land districts in the States of Illinois and Missouri, and in the territory north of the State of Illinois.

SENECA, Wis. — Authorities are investigating the finding of human remains Monday by hunters in Seneca, the Wood County sheriff says.
Officials do not think the remains have anything to do with a report from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation that a state prison inmate is claiming to have killed a woman and buried her in Seneca several years ago, Reichert said.
The inmate, who is in prison for an unrelated homicide, told authorities he picked up a transient woman on the East Coast several years ago and disposed of her body in Seneca.

In 1956, probably in conjunction with the centennial of Wood County, Wisconsin, the country schools in the county each wrote up a history of their school.
Some of the histories were apparently written by the students, some by the teachers, and others by an adult of the community in which the school was located.
Emil Krause, a long time member of the Heart O' Wisconsin Genealogical Society, made a copy of these histories and arranged them in two volumes, alphabetically by the name of the school and also numbered the pages.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Wood County Sheriff Tom Reichert has announced that the human remains found by hunters Monday in the town of Seneca are those of missing Wisconsin Rapids woman Deidre Harm.
Harm was last seen June 10 at two downtown Wisconsin Rapids bars, The New Body Shop and The Finish Line.
She did not show up for work the next morning or pick up her four and a-half-month-old daughter from the babysitter.
