Despite its brief existence, the French government still managed to issue (A token that postal fees have been paid) postage stamps for the administrative unit, in the form of a version of its Navigation and Commerce series, inscribed "SENEGAMBIE / ET NIGER".
For (A collector and student of postage stamps) stamp collectors today, the price ranges from 1 US$ for the low values and up for 40 US$ for the 1-franc value.

 Senegambia
In accordance with the plan of reorganization recommended by Père Libermann the Vicariate Apostolic of the Two Guineas and Senegambia was erected 22 Sept., 1846, consisting of the territory between the Prefecture of Senegal and the Diocese of Loanda.
In the Vicariate Apostolic of Senegambia there are 5,000,000 inhabitants, of whom 19,000 are Catholics, 2740 of this number belonging to Senegal.
Civilly Senegal forms a separate colony while Senegambia belongs to that of Upper Senegambia and the Niger, formed 8 April, 1904, by the Anglo-French convention.

The federation was intended to promote cooperation between the two countries, but was dissolved by Senegal when Gambia refused to move closer toward union.

On October 10, 1899 French Sudan was broken up; 11 southern provinces went to French Guinea, the Côte d'Ivoire and Dahomey, although two were returned in the following year.
In 1902 the parts of the colony not organized into military districts became Senegambia and Niger, then Upper Senegal and Niger in 1904, then the old name came back in a reorganization of 1920.
When Upper Volta was abolished in 1933, French Sudan picked up some of its provinces.

 WHKMLA : History of Upper Senegal & Niger, 1898-1922
In 1881 French military expeditions began to penetrate into the Upper Senegal and Niger valleys; in 1884 they established a stronghold at Bamako on the Niger.
Renamed Senegambia and Niger in 1902, renamed Upper Senegal and Niger in 1904.
In 1919, Upper Volta was split off and made a separate colony, in 1922 Niger.

Administratively, the newly acquired region was part of the FRENCH SOUDAN, which in 1899 was renamed UPPER SENEGAL AND MIDDLE NIGER (which covered modern Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger), and in 1902 were amalgamated with Senegambia to form SENEGAMBIA AND NIGER, capital Kayes.
In 1904 Senegambia and Niger was dissolved; Upper Volta now was allocated to Upper Senegal and Niger, capital Bamako.
The activities of Catholic missionaries caused resentment in Muslim areas; in 1906 the French administration ordered the White Fathers to reduce their educational activity in Upper Volta.

As at present accepted, the group includes five genera and some twenty-three species, although two West African species, the Black Guinea-Fowl (Phasidus niger) and the Turkey Guinea-Fowl (Agelastes meleagrides), are anomalous in a number of particulars, and have sometimes been separated as a distinct subfamily.
The true Guinea-Fowls (Numida), of which fourteen species are well known, are characterized by having the upper part of the head bare and elevated in the center into a bony crest or helmet.
The common domestic species (N. Meleagris) is found wild in West Africa from Senegambia to the Niger, and also in the Cape Verde Islands, and in some of the West Indies, where it was, of course, introduced.
