Distal sensory neuropathy is the most commonly reported type of neuropathy in the literature (Mc Reynolds, 1995).
It is characterised by hypesthesia, a decrease in tendon reflexes, loss of vibratory sensation, painful parasthesia, sensory ataxia and weakness.
Progressive polyradiculopathy is associated with cytomegalovirus of the nerve roots, which results in lower extremity and sacral parasthesia, rapidly progressing paraparesis, areflexia, ascending sensory loss and urinary retention (McReynolds, 1995).Treatment is necessary immediately to avoid irreversible nerve root necrosis.

 MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Friedreich's ataxia
Friedreich's ataxia is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, meaning the affected individual must inherit two altered genes - one from the mother and one from the father.
Symptoms are caused by degeneration of structures in the cerebellum and spinal cord responsible for coordination, muscle movement, and some sensory functions.
Call your health care provider if muscle weakness, numbness, loss of coordination, loss of reflexes, or other symptoms of Friedreich's ataxia occur (particularly if there is a family history of the disorder).

Brain tumor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Hemiparesis, aphasia, difficulty speaking, ataxia, hemihypoesthesia (numbness and decreased sensation of touch on one side of the body) and localized headache are some of the symptoms occurring due to the local effects of the brain tumor.
Increased pressure in the skull or brain edema cause more generalized symptoms like generalized headache, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness (stupor or coma) and intellectual decline.
Most frequent paraneoplastic diseases are cerebellar ataxia, peripheral sensory neuropathy, limbic encephalitis and brainstem encephalitis.
