Attending the expressway opening ceremony, President Kim Dae-jung said that the new road is expected to contribute to leading the western coastal region towards being a hub of the Northeast Asian community.
The opening of the expressway is also expected to contribute to the support of the rapidly increasing trade with China, in light of its proximity.
In a ceremony marking the full opening of the Jungang Expressway on Dec. 14, Prime Minister Lee Han.-dong said that the new highway is expected to function as the main artery of the nation.
