Separate Baptists - an 18th century group of Baptists in the United States, primarily in the South, that grew out of the Great Awakening.
The Separate Baptists of New England were never truly a separate group from the Regular Baptists.
Except for a remnant, the denominational name Separate Baptist mostly disappeared with the formal and informal agreements of union between the Regular Baptists and Separate Baptists, beginning in Virginia in 1787, in the Carolinas in 1789, and in Kentucky in 1797 and 1801.

Separate Baptist Missions, Inc. was formed in 1969.
Separate Baptists also differ from the main body of Baptists by being more Arminian in persuasion, believing "that he who endures to the end, the same shall be saved" rather than the more common view of eternal security.

The Northern Baptists constituted, 17 May, 1907, at Washington, a representative body, called the "Northern Baptist Convention", whose object is "to give expression to the sentiment of its constituency upon matters of denominational importance and of general religious and moral interest." Governor Hughes of New York was elected president of the new organization.
The earliest Baptist church in the Dominion of Canada was organized at Horton, Nova Scotia, in 1763, by the Rev. Ebenezer Moulton of New England.

It was common practice for Scotch Baptists to hold weekly communion and practice immersion for believers but not for 'baptism for the remission of sins.' The few who sought to promote this teaching were but a small voice and easily contained.
This church was originally Scotch Baptist, and if you have had any connection with this self-righteous people, you will know that the most prudent and cautious conduct toward them is required, and even then there is but little hope of saving them from their predestinarian notions.
