  September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks
The September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks, often referred to as 9/11 (pronounced "nine eleven" after the U.S. style of writing the date September 11), were a series of coordinated suicide attacks against targets in the United States on September 11, 2001 that involved the hijacking of four passenger jet aircraft.
The attacks of September 11th, 2001 had immediate and overwhelming effects upon the United States population and prompted numerous memorials and services all over the world, as well as tolerance of the US retaliation upon those accused of supporting the attacks.
After the U.S. attack removed the Taliban from power in many parts of Afghanistan, a videotape was discovered abandoned in Kabul, the Afghan capital, which showed bin Laden discussing the attacks in language that is hard to account for except in ways that imply he intended to indicate his foreknowledge.

September 11, 2001 attacks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The September 11th attacks are among the most significant events to have occurred so far in the 21st century in terms of the profound economic, social, political, cultural and military effects that followed in the United States and many other parts of the world.
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, known as the 9-11 Commission, released its report on July 22, 2004, concluding that the attacks were conceived and implemented by al-Qaeda operatives.
The attacks were denounced world-wide, with the headline of Paris, France's "Le Monde" newspaper being prototypical: "Today We Are All Americans." Approximately one month after the attacks the USA led a wide coalition of international forces into Afghanistan in pursuit of al-Qaeda forces.

MSN Encarta - September 11 Attacks
September 11 Attacks, coordinated terrorist strike on the United States in 2001 that killed about 3,000 people and shook the nation to its core.
But the organizers of the September 11 strike devised a plan that had not been anticipated and for which no effective defense had been prepared: to use a large fuel-laden commercial airliner as a highly explosive bomb.
Officials later concluded that the tactical leader for the entire September 11 operation was an Egyptian named Mohammed Atta, who was apparently at the controls of one of the planes flown into the World Trade Center towers.

CNS - Roundtable on the Implications of the September 11, 2001, Terrorist Attacks for Nonproliferation and Arms Control
The first factor is that the group that attacked on September 11 seemed to differ in its characteristics and methodology from other groups that we have seen in the past.
They were willing to give their lives in an attack, which indicates a level of dedication and fanaticism that is not characteristic of terrorists, most of whom wish to survive and see the fruits of their labors.
What the September 11 attacks demonstrate is that there are no inhibitions on the level of death and destruction that these terrorists are prepared to try to achieve.

Terrorist attacks increased dangerous irregular heartbeats
Beginning a few days after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the rate of ICD discharges increased and remained elevated throughout the next month.
The increases in ICD discharge did not occur until three days after the terrorist attack and  continued to occur at a cumulative rate throughout the remainder of the 30-day study period.  The discharge rate returned to pre-attack levels and remained at 2 percent to 3 percent per month during several months of monitoring.
The researchers looked at various medical and demographic factors that might have contributed to the increase in arrhythmias.  The only predictor of an arrhythmia after the terrorist attack was the patients’ history of life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances.
