EPA Region 3, the Mid-Atlantic Region, is comprised of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Region 3 formally authorized all of its states and the District of Columbia to be the primary implementors of the underground storage tanks (UST) and leaking UST (LUST) programs.
In August and September 2004, Region 3 staff is holding brownfields grant training for interested Region 3 stakeholders to educate them about federal and state financial and technical resources available to assess and clean up brownfields in their communities.

 Quake: Yountville, CA - Sept. 3, 2000
A magnitude (M) 5.2 earthquake occurred at 1:36 AM on September 3, 2000 in the mountains 10 miles northwest of the town of Napa, near Yountville, CA.
This earthquake generated nearly 2000 aftershocks over a period of a year and a half, yet geologists have been unable to identify any fault at the surface that can be related to these earthquakes at depth.
In fact, these 3 events are the only earthquakes with magnitude greater than 5.0 to hit the region 50-60 mi north of San Francisco Bay since 1906.

A limited amount of shallow drilling (six drill holes totaling 490m) has also tested a new mineralized area, the Orquidea Zone (see map), located about 500m south of the Alejandra Zone in an area with narrow quartz veins, breccias and stockworking with visible electrum (native gold/silver) and pyrargyrite (silver/antimony sulfide).
