On September 30, 1847, Congressman George Perkins Marsh delivered a speech on agricultural conditions in New England to the Agricultural Society of Rutland County, Vermont.
On September 30, 1882, the world's first hydroelectric power plant began operation on the Fox River in Appleton, Wisconsin.
The plant, later named the Appleton Edison Light Company, was initiated by Appleton paper manufacturer H.F. Rogers, who had been inspired by Thomas Edison's plans for an electricity-producing station in New York.

 FDA Issues Public Health Advisory on Vioxx as its Manufacturer Voluntarily Recalls the Product
Merck contacted FDA on September 27, 2004, to request a meeting and to advise the agency that the long-term study of Vioxx in patients at increased risk of colon polyps had been halted.
Merck and FDA officials met the next day, September 28, and during that meeting the company informed FDA of its decision to remove Vioxx from the market voluntarily.
Vioxx is the only NSAID demonstrated to have a lower rate of these side effects.

The Orthodox Theological Education System includes 33 seminaries, among which 5 are monastic, with 5,885 students, including 343 monks and nuns; 8 medical colleges, with 522 students; 19 schools for chanters, with 681 students; and 6 colleges for chanters and religion teachers, with 133 students.
Whether as "a teacher, a nurse, a doctor, a wife or as a mother, she is called to be defender of the Church", as were many of the saints in the past and "to proclaim loudly the true faith in God".
Orthodox Christianity is at present an insignificant minority with less than 100 practicing Orthodox Christians on the entire island.

 About St. Mary Orthodox Church
Mary is a parish of the Self-Ruled Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America in the Diocese of Oakland PA and the East.
Mary is one of the oldest Antiochian Orthodox parishes in America, founded by Saint Raphael Hawaweeny, Bishop of Brooklyn, in 1904.  It is sixth in his list of parishes.  The parish is now 101 years old.
There are 18 members of the Order of St. Ignatius who come from St. Mary Orthodox Church. These members are involved in all activities of the parish.  They see the Order as an opportunity to serve the needs of the Antiochicn Archdiocese.

 Introductory Information
The Program in Liturgical Studies at the Divinity School is fully funded by the Institute, and provides faculty who are historians of liturgical texts, music, and ceremony, but who are also keenly interested in and knowledgeable about the worship of the contemporary churches.
In addition, musicians were taught the foundations of liturgical history and were required to take a small number of courses in the seminary.
Students acquire a sense of the partnership between churches, and a working knowledge of the changing synthesis of music, text, ceremony, and liturgical space, which takes and has taken place in the assemblies of all faiths and denominations since their beginnings.
