Topic: Sequential game

Game Theory, by Avinash Dixit and Barry Nalebuff: The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics: Library of Economics and ...
Game theory was pioneered by Princeton mathematician John von Neumann.
Games are fundamentally different from decisions made in a neutral environment.
In contrast to the linear chain of reasoning for sequential games, a game with simultaneous moves involves a logical circle.

Game theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics that studies strategic situations where players choose different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns.
Game theorists may assume players always act rationally to maximize their wins (the Homo economicus model), but real humans often act either irrationally, or act rationally to maximize the wins of some larger group of people (altruism).
Game theory experienced a flurry of activity in the 1950s, during which time the concepts of the core, the extensive form game, fictitious play, repeated games, and the Shapley value were developed.

Game Theory (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
Game theory is the study of the ways in which strategic interactions among rational players produce outcomes with respect to the preferences (or utilities) of those players, none of which might have been intended by any of them.
The simplest games (from the perspective of logical structure) are those in which agents have perfect information, meaning that at every point where each agent's strategy tells her to take an action, she knows everything that has happened in the game up to that point.
Game theory has been fruitfully applied in evolutionary biology, where species and/or genes are treated as players, since pioneering work by Maynard Smith (1982) and his collaborators.

Although the foundation of game theory is mathematics, game theory is widely used in many different fields including biology, computer science, economics, philosophy, and political science.
The primary focus of game theory in economics is analysis of particular sets of strategies known as equilibria in games.
Game theorists respond that while the assumptions they make do not always hold, they present a reasonable scientific idealization akin to the assumptions of models in physics.

RPGnet : Speculative Physics #38: In Order
For example, the fourth game could have you playing the descendants of the politicians or revolutionaries, in which case the mechanical outcomes when those games ended could be the first step to creating your investigator.
Consider a sequence of games where the characters start out with the classic heroic coming of age, then must deal with politics and romance as established heroes, and finally in their twilight confront their own inner monsters and seek some sort of peace.
Indeed, another entire possibility is to link each game differently, perhaps one link is the theme of honor, while the next retains the characters in a world unlike the previous one, while the third occurs elsewhere and elsewhen in the same world.

♠Video Poker - Sequential Royal - The Wizard of Odds
A "sequential royal" is only one way, from 10 to ace going from left to right.
There is another game called "Reversable Royals", which goes both ways, however that game I have yet to analyze.
Sequential royals will constitute about 1.01% of all royals, as opposed to 1 in 120 in a non-sequential game.

First developed as a tool for understanding economic behavior, game theory is now used in many diverse academic fields, ranging from biology to philosophy.
Although Cournot´s analysis is more general than Waldegrave´s, game theory did not really exist as a unique field until John von Neumann (the "von" was from an enoblement by the Hungarian government) published a series of papers in 1928.
Although common knowledge was first discussed by the philosopher David Lewis in his dissertation (and later book) ´´Convention´´ in the late 1960s, it was not widely considered by economists until Robert Aumann´s work in the 1970s.

Sequential Game - Game Theory .net
A sequential game is one in which players make decisions (or select a strategy) following a certain predefined order, and in which at least some players can observe the moves of players who preceded them.
If every player observes the moves of every other player who has gone before her, the game is one of perfect information.
Sequential games are represented by game trees (the extensive form) and solved using the concept of rollback, or subgame perfect equilibrium.

Interactive design and game development may seem to have little in common with art history, but they are closely related for John Sharp, a professor at SCAD-Atlanta.

A folk theorem for repeated sequential games | Business solutions from AllBusiness.com
Folk theorem asserts that any feasible payoff vector where every player receives more than his effective minimax value in a sequential stage game can be supported by a subgame perfect equilibrium in the corresponding repeated sequential game when players are sufficiently patient.
The model of repeated sequential games and the concept of effective minimax provide an alternative view to the Anti-Folk theorem of Lagunoff and Matsui (1997) for asynchronously repeated pure coordination games.
Their Folk theorem asserts that if the discounting is low enough then any feasible and strictly individually rational payoff vector of a stage game can be supported by a subgame perfect equilibrium in the corresponding infinitely repeated game, when the stage game either has only two players or satisfies the full dimensionality condition.

An Experiment on Bargaining Power in Simple Sequential Games (ResearchIndex)
Abstract: : Within the last few years, experiments on sequential bargaining (like the ultimatum game, best shot, or the trust game) have received much attention because behavior has often (but not always) proved to differ very strongly from what game theory predicts.
In the present paper, we introduce a simplifying framework of 2x2 games to facilitate cross comparisons between previously studied bargaining games.
Three newly derived games, which we call stick-and-carrot games, help to study the observed...

Jimmy Rollins Extends Non-Sequential-Game Hit Streak | The Onion - America's Finest News Source
ATLANTA—With his 3-for-4 performance in Monday night's game against the Braves, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins extended his non-sequential-game hit streak to 748 non-consecutive games, the only recorded, and therefore longest, streak of its kind in major-league history.
"The key reason my streak has gone on as long as it has is that I'm not just trying to go out there and get a hit in every at bat, or even in every game," Rollins said.
