In 2002 the National Park Service looked to the Sequoia Fund for help in acquiring a large, and significant, collection of photographs from the personal collection of Harry Edmond Roberts (1869-1961), photographic concessionaire for General Grant National Park (now known as Kings Canyon National Park) from 1914 to 1935.
The significance of this collection to the history of these parks is manifold: the wealth and variety of early views (of both developed and undeveloped areas), the evident completeness of the collection, the high quality of the images, and the rich biographical material about this important but little known figure in the parks’ history.
