Ang Mo Kio is the seventh new town developed by the HDB which was then envisaged to be one of the largest new towns in Singapore.
Ang Mo Kio Town situated north of Bishan Town covers an area of some 640 hectares of undulating terrain bounded by Lorong Kinchir in the south, Serangoon Garden Estate in the east and Yio Chu Kang in the north.
Ang Mo Kio is the first town where the flats built are distinct from the improved flats built in the earlier phases, and the five-room flats are built in slab block form rather than point block.

This little area on the north-east of Singapore, between Ang Mo Kio and Hougang towns is defined by its main road, Avenue 1, which is hardly a km long.
