Sergei Vasilyevich Avdeyev (Сергей Васильевич Авдеев, born 1 January 1956) is a Russian cosmonaut.
Avdeyev was born in Chapayevsk, Samara Oblast (formerly Kuybyshev Oblast), Russian SFSR.
Avdeyev at one point held the record for cumulative time spent in space with 747.59 days in earth orbit, accumulated through three tours of duty aboard the Mir Space Station.

The official ceremony of transfer of control of the ISS from the crew of the 10th basic expedition to the crew of the 11th expedition is assigned for tomorrow on 22 April of this year.
Sergei prepared a new laptop for the Russian Segment by installing a 60 GB hard drive while John had a go at the routine SOZh maintenance.
Sergei then “worked on the condensate water recovery system (SRVK-2M) in the SM to investigate the SKV2 air conditioner’s current inability to produce condensate flow to the SRVK.” He then continued transferring potable (drinking) water from the Rodnik in the Progress to Zvezda.

Cosmonaut Sergei Avdeyev, currently on board the Mir space station, has become the person with the longest total stay in space.
Avdeyev has completed two previous six-month visits to Mir, so his cumulative space experience stands at 681 days on 21 June.
Avdeyev is due to return to Earth with his fellow cosmonauts on August 23.

Russian space officials said on Wednesday cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Sergei Avdeyev carried out large amounts of work during a six-hour spacewalk despite being thwarted in one task by lack of a screwdriver.
Padalka and Avdeyev left Mir unmanned during their spacewalk of five hours and 54 minutes which ended early on Wednesday.
Russian Space Agency spokesman Sergei Gorbunov said Moscow had decided to scrap plans to delay the Nov. 20 launch of the Zarya module by 10 hours to bring it into the same orbit as the 12-year-old Russian Mir space station.

There is a remote chance -- between one in 10,000 and one in 1 million -- that one of the shuttle's steering jets could inadvertently ignite while the orbiter is docked at the station, generating enough force to rip the joined spaceships apart.
Thus, before the Discovery's flight back to the Earth, specialists must be sure that the ceramic skin of the spaceship's body had not been damaged as it happened with the Columbia shuttle on February 1, 2003.
During the real event, Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips will have to remain motionless, sitting by the windows, taking photos of the rapidly flying shuttle, so that the photos be clear.

Aboard were the EO-12 crew of Anatoli Solovyov and Sergei Avdeyev, together with Michel Tognini, the third Frenchman to visit a space station.
Avdeyev and Solovyov moved the VDU to the work site and prepared the Sofora girder on September 3.

Cosmonauts Anatoli Y. Solovyev and Sergei V. Avdeyev had docked their Soyuz TM-15 spacecraft at Mir on 29 July 1992 along with French cosmonaut M. Tognini, who had returned to Earth on 10 August 1992 with that Soyuz TM-14.
During the first three weeks of January, Solovyev and Avdeyev conducted a variety of geophysical and astrophysical observations and refueled the Mir module with propellants from Progress M-15.
