Sergei Yesenin never knew his son by Volpin, but Alexander Esenin-Volpin grew up to become a prominent poet and activist in the Soviet Union's dissident movement of the 1960s with Andrei Sakharov and others.
Sergei Yesenin is interred in Moscow's Vagankovskoye Cemetery.

Esenin became a myth and legend, and he is still one of the most beloved poets in his country.
Esenin hoped that the Revolution would lead to a better life for the peasantry, a new age, of which he crystallized his visions in Inoniya (1918).
Before his death, Esenin slashed his wrists and wrote with his own blood his farewell in 'Do svidan'ia, drug moi, do svidan'ia': "In this life it is not new to die, / but neither it is new to be alive." Esenin used blood because the ink bottle in the room was dry.

This paper explores the poetic image of Esenin in poems from the second volume of Kljuev's collection Pesnoslov and from his narrative poems of the 1920s.
In discussing features of the role in which Kljuev casts Esenin, I draw supporting material from the poets' correspondence and from periodical and memoir accounts from the period.

The following article is a more researched considerably enriched version of an earlier interview, written up in Ferment in 1981,with the 57-year old dissident mathematician, former refusenik and emigrant from the Soviet Union, Alexander SergeiÐvitch Esenin -Volpin.
Alexander Esenin-Volpin was born, outside of wedlock, (the term having little meaning at that time and place), on May 12th, 1924, His mother, Nadhezha Volpin, is known in Russia as a translator of works of fiction from French and English.
In 1972 he was allowed to come to the United States.
