Sergei Bernstein graduated from high school in 1898.
In 1918 Bernstein was awarded his Master's degree and then, in 1913, he received his second doctorate, this time from Kharkov.
In 1911 he introduced what are now called the Bernstein polynomials to give a constructive proof of Weierstrass' theorem (1885), namely that a continuous function on a finite subinterval of the real line can be uniformly approximated as closely as we wish by a polynomial.

Bernstein was appointed to his first permanent conducting post in 1943, as assistant conductor of the new york philharmonic.
After harvard, bernstein completed a year of intensive training at the curtis institute in philadelphia with fritz reiner, a strict disciplinarian in the toscanini mold, who emphasized thorough preparation and insisted that the only way to understand a piece was to master every detail.
Leonard bernstein in 1944 in november 1943, having recently been appointed assistant conductor of the new york philharmonic brian setzer orchestra, he made his conducting debut when bruno walter was ill he was an immediate success and became instantly famous, since the concert was nationally broadcast.

Bernstein polynomial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the mathematical subfield of numerical analysis, a Bernstein polynomial, named after Sergei Natanovich Bernstein, is a polynomial in the Bernstein form, that is a linear combination of Bernstein basis polynomials.
Polynomials in Bernstein form were first used by Bernstein in a constructive proof for the Stone-Weierstrass approximation theorem.
Bernstein polynomials thus afford one way to prove the Stone-Weierstrass approximation theorem that every real-valued continuous function on a real interval [a,b] can be uniformly approximated by polynomial functions over R.

Sergei Natanovich Bernstein (Russian: Сергей Натанович Бернштейн, sometimes Romanized as Bernshtein) (March 5, 1880 - October 26, 1968) was a Ukrainian mathematician who was born in Odessa, Ukraine and died in Moscow, USSR.
His doctoral dissertation, submitted in 1904 to the Sorbonne, solved Hilbert's nineteenth problem on the analytic solution of elliptic differential equations.
