Parajanov's "Sayat Nova" or "The colour of pomegranates" at Athens' Trianon Filmcenter
Its influence was even compared to that of Sergei Eisentein's "The Battleship Potemkin." The still camera, the absence of dialogues, the images that look like banners and are notionally self-reliant: all these are connected in a unique way with the 8 parts of the film, which in their turn are connected to Nova's poems.
Parajanov's symbolic-poetic film was not an exception and, of course, didn't avoid the censorship (Parajanov had originally to change the title, while later the Russian authorities called director Yutkevich to make it more "appropriate").
