saab 98   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The construction of the 98 was based on the Saab 95 floorpan and the design was made by Björn Envall.
The prototype was assembled by Sergio Coggiola who had already done work on the Saab Sonett III.
Only "a couple of test cars"¹ were built up to 1976 and the project was abandoned as Saab decided there was no room in the market for a car between the Saab 95 and Saab 99, however the 98 was the first time Saab introduced the combi coupé.

The Coggiola design was altered by Gunnar A. Sjögren to fit the middle section.
It is rumored to have been constructed by hand overtop a production 197x Sonett III chassis by none other than Sergio Coggiola.
As Coggiola is believed to have departed from Saab before producing the V, the car could be classified as a custom Saab rather than a prototype.

Welcome to the Dutch Volvo Coupé Bertone Register Homepage!
Bertone has been associated with many automobile manufacturers over the last 40 years, although very few people are aware of the links between the Volvo Car Corporation and Bertone, initially in 1977 with the 262C, 245 Transfer, 264 TE and later in 1985 with the equally luxurious 780.
The first prototype was constructed in 1974 using a secondhand 164 saloon which was restyled by Sergio Coggiola, the Italian designer, from drawings based on ideas from Pehr Gyllenhammer while in North America, and produced by Jan Wilsgaard's styling department.
Coggiola had already produced a number of concept cars based on the Volvo 1800 series floor pan and mechanical components.

During World War II car-styling work was scarce and Frua had to turn to designing children’s cars, electric ovens and kitchen units, as well as a monocoque scooter.
Frua planned for post-war times: in 1944 he bought a bombed-out factory, hired 15 workers (including Sergio Coggiola, who founded his own carrozzeria in 1966) and equipped himself to design and build cars.
His first known car is a 1946 Fiat 1100 A Sport Barchetta.

The Sonett III was originally designed after studies of the American preferences in the areas of sports car design, with the basic shape given it by the well known Italian auto designer Sergio Coggiola.

The Story of Ghia & Chrysler
The first show-car Ghia built for Chrysler has gone down in history for a reason which has absolutely nothing to do with the one for which it was built: the Norseman was to have been exhibited as the world's most automated car, as far as this was possible with the technology of the time.
It was designed by Billie Brownlie, the Exner group's stylist in charge of the project, and the practical problems involved in building it gave severe headaches to Sergio Coggiola, the capable head of Ghia's prototype shop.
Curiously, it was exactly the same problem which Sergio Reggiani, sculptor-designer, and Giannino Marzotto, racing driver in a pin-stripe, had to tackle in their "egg" Ferrari in the 1951 Mille Miglia.

Many details, however, including much of the rear section were drawn by Swedish designers like Gunnar A Sjögren, GAS so that it became acceptable for production.
The reason the model had to be discontinued was the expense necessary to make it meet all new U.S. regulations for safety system and emission controls.
