		Marchi was born in Argentina to an Italian family who subsequently immigrated to Canada.
		In 2005, it was reported in the media that Marchi might challenge popular incumbent David Miller for the Toronto mayoralty in the municipal election in 2006.

		Ambassador Marchi characterized the Doha agenda as an attempt by the WTO community to bridge the "development divide," or to recognize that the benefits of trade have not been equally and equitably shared.
