These mandates required that all Thais were to salute the flag, know the national anthem, and use the national language, as opposed to local dialects.
When the tide turned against Japan, Phibun was forced to resign by the pro-Seri Thai Assembly, thus ending his six-year period as strongman.
At the end of the war, Phibun was put on trial by the Allies on charges of collaborating with the enemy.

The Thai Phayap Army invaded British Burma alongside the Japanese, and on January 25, 1942 Thailand declared war on Britain and the United States of America.
The Thai ambassador to the United States, Seni Pramoj did not deliver his copy of the declaration of war, so although the British reciprocated by declaring war on Thailand and consequently considered it a hostile country, the USA did not.
As the war dragged on, the Thai population came to resent the Japanese presence.

 History
The Thai kings of Ayuthaya grew very powerful in the 14th and 15th centuries, taking over U Thong and Lopburi, former Khmer strongholds, and moving cast in their conquests until Angkor was defeated in 1431.
One result of this acculturation was that the Thai monarch gained more absolute authority during the Ayuthaya period and assumed the title devaraja (god-king; thewaraat in Thai) as opposed to the dhammaraja title used in Sukhothai.
In 1912 a group of Thai military officers unsuccessfully attempted to overthrow the monarchy, the first in a series of 20th century coup attempts that has continued to the present day.

SERI Centre Co Ltd, a shopping-complex operator owned by Premier Group, yesterday announced the establishment of a new company, Seri Centre Management Co Ltd, to run the troubled Seri Centre complex and strengthen the confidence of its retail tenants.
Seri Centre, which developed and has run the shopping complex since 1994, is facing a bankruptcy suit filed by Thonburi Asset Management Co, a subsidiary of Thai Farmers Bank, to recover unpaid loans and interest totalling Bt74.74 million.
Seri Centre's business troubles began in 1995, when Printemps, a French department-store chain, shut down its 30,000-square-metre outlet in the centre, resulting in a sharp drop in the centre's occupancy rate to only 60 percent.
