Method for buffered serial peripheral interface (SPI) in a serial data bus - Patent 4742349
The purpose of the disclosed method for buffered serial peripheral interface in a serial data bus is to provide a method of handling a buffered SPI port as part of the serial data bus interface IC circuit described herein.
Of paramount importance in the subject invention is the inclusion of the capability to communicate with a serial communication interface (SCI) port, a serial peripheral interface (SPI) port and a buffered serial peripheral interface (BSPI) port.
In block 788, the bus interface IC 24 checks for the stop bit time and waits for this to occur before falling through to block 790 to set the CONTROL line to a logical one condition before the buffer 304 is clocked by the user microprocessor 22 in block 791.

Serial Peripheral Interface Bus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Serial Peripheral Interface Bus or SPI bus is a very loose standard for controlling almost any digital electronics that accepts a clocked serial stream of bits.
The advantage of a serial bus is that it minimizes the number of conductors, pins, and the size of the package of an integrated circuit.
A serial peripheral bus is the most flexible choice when many different types of serial peripherals must be present, and there is a single controller.

External display peripheral for coupling to a universal serial bus port or hub on a computer - Patent 6738856
DDC-formatted signals from the peripheral device are converted to the appropriate format for input through the USB port, and signals transmitted to the peripheral device from the USB port are converted to the format recognizable by the external peripheral, allowing access to peripheral features via the host system.
Internal to the USB circuitry is a microprocessor that acts as a universal serial bus transceiver and controller that operates to change the format of data and provide data exchange control from display peripheral to the computer.
Alternatively, a signal converter wherein the USB interface is an adapter between a cable connecting between the display peripheral and the host, and wherein the adapter mates to an end of the cable.

Serial Peripheral Interface – SPI Bus overview - Scientific, embedded, biomedical, electronics contents.
Serial Peripheral Interface is a simple interface which enables to communicate microcontroller and peripheral chips or intercommunicate between two or more microcontrollers.
Serial Peripheral Interface bus sometimes called four wire interface may be used to interface such chips or devices like: LCD, sensors, memories, ADC, RTC.
SPI Bus uses synchronous protocol, where transmitting and receiving is guided by clock signal generated by master microcontroller.

The Serial Peripheral Interface Bus or SPI (often pronounced "spy") bus is a synchronous serial data link standard designed by Motorola that operates in full duplex mode.
The complexity of the interface grows as the number of slave devices increases due to its lack of built-in addressing.
As a result, the peripherals appear to the CPU as memory-mapped parallel devices.

Each bus defines its set of connectors to physically plug devices, cards or cables together.
A particularly common example of this problem was that video cards quickly outran even the newer bus systems like PCI, and computers began to include AGP just to drive the video card.
On another track, integrated circuits are increasingly being designed from predesigned logic, "intellectual property." Buses such as Wishbone have been developed to permit devices on integrated circuits to talk to one another.

The new Spansion® S25FL Flash memory family is designed to reduce costs and dramatically simplify system design of consumer electronics and PC peripherals such as hard disk drives, optical drives, printers, cordless phones, DSL/cable modems, and DVD players and recorders.
Serial Flash memory communicates with processors in a different way than traditional parallel Flash memory.
Traditional Flash memory inputs or outputs 8, 16, or 32 bits of data simultaneously, but serial Flash memory inputs and outputs only one data bit (a 1 or a 0) at a time.
