It wasn't until the 1998-99 season that Sorrento forced its way back into Serie D. 2003-04 was one of the better seasons for Sorrento, but just missed out by one point on a possible Serie C play-off match, and finished 6th.
Spending the 1970s in Serie C mid-table obscurity, the end of the 1977-78 season saw Serie C get split into its two levels present today and Sorrento were one of eight teams to be dropped into Serie C2 for 1978-79.
Life was tough in Serie B however (it contained the likes of Lazio, Palermo, Bari, and Brescia), and Sorrento finished in the bottom 3 and were relegated.

Sevilla’s prime target – Christian Vieri
During his six year stay at Giuseppe Meazza, Vieri scored 102 goals in 143 Serie A matches although this season, in which he netted just 12 was his “weakest” considering he hadn’t scored such a low amount of goals since his one year spell with Lazio in 1998/99.
After failing to sign Mateja Kezman (Mateja Kežman) from FC Chelsea, leaving the Serb striker to join Atletico Madrid, the management of Sevilla has emerged as one of the most serious sides to sign Christian Vieri who just broke off ties with Inter Milan.
Even then, he was in better position than this past year where out of 27 matches, on 8 occasions he came on as a substitute and he barely played the whole 90 minutes in the other games he did start.
