When the first researches and the first records of rock art were initiated in the Serra da Capivara National Park, the existence of very different graphic profiles was almost immediately noted resulting in the assumption of the existence of many ethnic groups.
The analysis criteria of the work leads to the establishment of graphic profiles enabling the definition of cultural units and the building of hypotheses that could be confirmed by the culture of material collected in archaeological excavations.
Chrono-stratigraphy provided by Archaeological excavations confirmed that hypothesis and the several graphic manifestations marked were classified into traditions, sub-traditions and styles, components of complex cultural horizons that thirty years of continuing research would substantiate.

The Foundation runs the magnificent Serra da Capivara National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where 626 sites with prehistoric paintings have been found so far.
We started a ceramics business (the Cerâmica da Capivara) with the help of the Inter-American Development Bank; we built a workshop and brought in teachers; the ceramics is being exported and they also have created a special line for Tok and Stok (Rio's equivalent to Crate and Barrel).
In 1978, we petitioned the Brazilian government to create the National Park to protect this rich environment and the immense cultural heritage in this area.
