Tube Assembly: The optical tube is a serrurier truss structure.
From the ring is a truss structure that supports the secondary cage on the upper end, and the mirror and its cell on the lower end.
The truss structure will be attached to the truss structure behind the mirror cell in the typical "Dobsonian" fashion: with a pivot bolt and Teflon vs. Ebony Star formica.

On the internet I came across the very nice homepage of Steven Lee and his explanation on why most Serrurier truss telescopes really are not what they call themselves.
It is the back to back arrangement of the triangular trusses connecting the upper tube assembly including secondary & focuser and the lower tube assembly including mirror and cell with a central element that is connected to the support, that makes a genuine serrurier truss.
This calculation is based on the assumption of ideal truss connections and yields sag of not more than 0.03 mm at both ends (with the telescope pointing at 0° altitude and different rotation angles around the lateral telescope axis).

The lower trusses are closed by the main mirror cell, the upper trusses by a fixed end ring which supports the secondary mirror and prime focus assembly.
The lower trusses are of tubular steel welded to the mirror cell attachment block with spade ends bolted to the centre box section.
Brackets for the lower Serrurier trusses are attached to the outer plate of the cell wall.

 General description
The tube has a Serrurier truss design which gives nominally parallel and equal deflections at the primary mirror and at the top end.
The tube centre section, from which the Serrurier trusses spring, is carried on roller bearings inside a large horseshoe.
The horseshoe is joined to the north journal by two rectangular struts, forming the polar axis assembly which rotates on five main oil pads, two bearing on the outer cylindrical surface of the horseshoe and three on a part-spherical surface on the north journal.

 Description of UKIRT
A key element of its design is therefore the mirror cell, which is very massive and rigid, with webs over a metre deep.
The cell is suspended on Serrurier trusses from a midsection which carries the declination axis, and which in turn supports the topend via a second set of trusses.
The top-end comprises a substantial tubular steel ring which bolts to the fixed top-end ring above the upper Serrurier trusses of the permanent telescope structure.

At the bottom of the lower Serrurier trusses, the mirror cell is attached to the tube by four high tensile bolts.
The lower trusses are closed by the main mirror cell, the upper trusses by a fixed end ring which supports the prime focus structure.
The mirror cell is bolted to the lower trusses by four equally spaced bolts, the shear being taken by angled wedges at each of the four cardinal positions.

I used steel pipe flanges (used to attach curtain rods in your bathroom) to stiffen the bottom of the trusses.
So the bottom end has a bolt which goes through a hole in the mirror box top, and is affixed on the other side by a wing nut.
Here's the truss brace I added with a 2-pound weight hanging off it to counteract the scope's bottom-heaviness.

To pass my time I therefore began work on the secondary mirror assembly of a new dobsonian version of the 12.5".
In summer, the same year, I did the rest of the main parts, and during my Xmas vacation I solved the puzzle of how to attach the trusses in a straight forward, user friendly manner.
For once, I feel as much joy looking at the telescope as looking through it.

Hello list, after having finished a 10" f4.9 mirror (well, at least I hope I have - startest still pending...) I am currently building the dobsonian travelscope.
I plan a Serrurier truss design made up of three major rings connected with trusses.
A rendered picture of the rough design can be found here: http://www.duda-derwahl.de/ATM/aluscope2.jpg The altitude rings will be attached to the middle ring, I plan the rockerbox to be collapsible.

 Description of UKIRT
These include inside and outside air temperatures (measured by carefully calibrated aspirating, radiation-shielded, thermometers), mirror surface and air temperatures, truss steelwork temperatures (used to correct focus changes with temperature) and top-end hub and air temperatures.
Robust measurements of pure seeing effects are are a likely product of the the autofocus mode of the fast guider, in which the latter opperates in amode exactly analogous to a Differential Image Motion mMonitor, or DIMM.
UKIRT is accordingly equipped with a simple model which corrects for these effects using the attituide infprmation from the Telescope Control System and temperature information from sensors attached to the truss steelwork.

The construction of the observatory structure was started in 1936 and was completed a short two years later with help from some Cal Tech grads who helped pour the foundations.
The telescope structure is a classic split ring, a horseshoe design with the optical tube assembly comprised of opposing serrurier trusses.
The mirror mount unitizes an oil flotation solution.
