		He was born in 2177 BCE, the son of Serug and the eighth generation from Noah.
		In Mesopotamia, the Amurru (Semitic Akkadian for "Westerners") city-state of Mari (not named in the Bible) on the Middle Euphrates is one of the dominant powers in Upper Mesopotamia during the early part of this millennium, until it is taken and destroyed by Babylonian King Hammurabi (see 18th Century BCE).
		Serug, son of Reu and the seventh generation from Noah, was born in 2207 BCE.

		These possibly refer to Ur, URA, and Urau (See BAR January 2000, page 16).
		Moreover, the names of Abram's forefathers Peleg, Serug, Nahor and Terah, All appear as names of cities in the region of Haran (Harper's Bible Dictionary, page 373).
		Yahweh called Abram to go to "the land I will show you", and promised to bless him and make him (though hitherto childless) a great nation.
