The Korean Service Medal is the primary United States decoration for participation in the Korean War and is awarded to any U.S. service member, who performed duty in the Republic of Korea, between June 27, 1950 and June 27, 1954.
Although the Korean War ended in 1953, the Korean Service Medal was issued until June of 1954 due to the tense nature of the occupation and garrison duty immediately after the Korean War as well as the high possibility of a renewed attack by North Korea.
As of 2004, a new medal known as the Korea Defense Service Medal was authorized for all post-Korean War service in the Republic of Korea.

 China Service Medal
The medal will be awarded to individual who shall have been attached to, present, and serving on permanent duty with an organization of the naval service of the United States credited by the Secretary of the Navy with having participated in operations in China.
Service in a passenger status, or as an observer, visitor, courier, escort, inspector or other similar status when not permanently attached to an eligible unit, is not creditable toward eligibility for the above medal.
Services performed in the Asiatic-Pacific area between 3 September 1945 and 2 March 1946, inclusive, shall not be credited toward individual eligibility for the China Service Medal unless the individual is already eligible for the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal for services performed prior to 2 September 1945.

The medal was designed by Thomas Jones, a sculptor on the staff of the Army Institute of Heraldry.
All members of the naval service of the United States who are eligible for the Korean Service Medal under existing regulations are automatically eligible for the United Nations Korean Medal.
The blue-and-whilte ribbon design is common to all the various medals, except that the Turkish version often is seen with a simple dark red ribbon replacing the blue-and-white version, a symbolic rejection of a color scheme the Turks perceived as representing the flag of historical rival Greece.

The Meritorious Service Medal may be awarded to members of the Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by outstanding noncombat achievement or by meritorious service to the United States, but not of a degree that would warrant the award of the Legion of Merit.

The second "honorable service" emblem was a lapel pin authorized for honorable service between the inclusive dates of April 1, 1920 (the official end of the First World War) and September 8, 1939 (the date President Roosevelt declared a state of limited emergency leading to Second World War).
This lapel pin is the same as the emblem for honorable service prior to September 8, 1939, except that it is in gold only (the thirteen stripes and the chief are not colored), and the words NATIONAL DEFENSE were dropped from the chief.

The medal, established by President Bill Clinton in January, recognizes the contributions of the civilian work force in supporting long-term humanitarian or peacekeeping missions.
The award is the civilian equivalent of the Armed Forces Service Medal, and the qualification criteria are similar.
Designed and produced by the Army's Institute of Heraldry at Fort Belvoir, Va., the new civilian service medal measures 1.75 inches in diameter and bears a torch on a burst of rays and the inscription, "Supporting Freedom." The medal is suspended from a ribbon with four colors: medium blue, gold and two shades of green.

 Defense Superior Service Medal
This medal (pictured below) is awarded by the Secretary of Defense to military officers who perform exceptionally with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, The Joint Chiefs of Staff, special or outstanding command in a defense agency or any other joint activity designated by the Secretary.
For these reasons and because it would rank just below the Distinguished Service Medal for similar service, it was decided to use the same design as the Distinguished Service Medal, except that it would be finished in silver rather than gold and the inscription on the reverse would be properly modified.
The medal was designed by Mildred Orloff and sculpted by Lewis J. King, Jr., both of the Institute of Heraldry.

       c.  The medal may be awarded posthumously to any soldier who lost his/her life while, or as a direct result of, participating in Global War on Terrorism Operations, without regard to length of such service, if otherwise eligible.

 Special Service Medal - Veterans Affairs Canada
When initially considered, it appeared that the medal would not split up this natural pairing of medals but now that it will be awarded for NATO service and awarded to retired members of the Canadian Forces, this will in fact occur.
