The Servite Friars or Servants of Mary are one of the five original mendicant orders.
The Servites were founded in Florence in 1233 through a coming together of seven lay men who are known as the Founders.
The Founders first lived in an area of Florence known as Cafaggio, thought to be near the present Servite Church of the Santissma Annunziata.

History of the Servite Secular Institute
Honouring Our Lady as Mother of Sorrows, the Servites had established themselves in Fulham Road, Chelsea and it was with their financial help and in their parish that the first Servite House was established in 1946.
Servite House gave at least some of them a home and restored a sense of family to people who had little hope.
Joan wanted her Institute to be Servite so it had to share the charisms of the Servite Order - compassion, sharing, service, a simple and joyful family spirit and a reverence for and imitation of Our Lady as we see her throughout the gospels, but especially on Calvary.

Servite High is located in Anaheim, and is officially an arm of the Order of Friar Servants of Mary.
The only weakness for Servite is that they lack a true "big man", and will have some difficulty with Ocean View, whom many believe are actually the league favorites with their center Kevin Hanson, a big and versatile 6'-10 post player.
Servite may, but probably will not win the league this season, but if they don't, they'll come awfully close, giving Ocean View a real run for it.

 The Servite Order
The tradition and scientific history sometime differ in their presentation and interpretation of facts: historical documentation preserved in the Servite archives witnesses to a providential combination of persons and circumstances, movements and ideals, which culminated in the founding of the Order.
Since the early days of the Servite Order, friars, and later Servite Sisters too, have spread throughout the world, living and sharing Christ's Gospel of peace under the special patronage of Mary, the "Lady" honored by the original seven Servants of Mary.
Servite history, with its roots in the turmoil of 13th century Italy, and in the hearts, minds and souls of Seven Holy Founders, is still being lived and written in the lives of each Servite.

Historians have generally held, from internal evidence, that this unsigned and undated narrative is the work of Prior General Peter of Todi, who was present in 1317 when the remains of St. Philip Benizi were exhumed and placed in a chapel of the Servite church in Todi.
But in the past forty years, historians have shown that this narrative is the work of two, or possibly three, authors, the last of which was Peter of Todi.
