The Setanta Cup is a football competition featuring clubs from both political entities on the island of Ireland.
The Setanta Cup is sponsored by Setanta Sports; the name of the first all-sport Irish T.V. station and also the name of the mythological hero Setanta who grew up to become Cúchulainn.
The inaugural Cup was played between March 15th and May 21st at the start of the League of Ireland season and the end of the Irish Premier League season.

The lidded cup was manufactured by Swatkins Silverware - founded in 1898 and manufacturers of the FA Cup - and will be presented to the tournament's first winners on Setanta Cup Final Day, Saturday May 21st along with the winners' cheque for EUR150,000.
Setanta Sports have also revealed their broadcast team for the tournament, which kicks off next Tuesday, March 15th when Glentoran host Longford Town at The Oval (kick-off 7.15pm).
