Pasqualino Frafuso or as he is commonly known "Pasqualino Seven Beauties" (Giancarlo Giannini) is a Napolitan who lives at the expense of his sister's work.
Seven Beauties provides a truly incomparable treatment of serious themes in a satirical tragi-comic manner which typical to Wertmuller's style is often uncomfortable to watch.
She intelligently operates with flashbacks juxtaposing the bitterly funny incidents in Naples with the atrocities of the Nazis in the concentration camps caustically criticising the abominable state which Pasqualino has reached in order to maintain the honour of his family.

Once upon a time seven swedish, blond, busty and fit while managing not to be overly muscular, beauties lived in a cottage in the woods.

Upon returning from an archaeological expedition up in the mountains (for these females were more than beauties they had minds as well, to be sure, and they had to earn a living, the bills don’t pay themselves) the swedish beauties found the door to their cottage ajar.

But the film is also picturesque and with some beautiful sequences, the beginning and ending sequences are brilliant.

Wertmuller's satirical thrust was so broad that both feminists and anti-feminists, liberals and conservatives flocked to her films.
Her male characters were not much more sympathetic, but their broad, macho posturing and chauvinism was tempered by the Chaplinesque pathos of Giannini's performances -- particularly his pathologically comic Pasqualino in SEVEN BEAUTIES.
With her 1976 Oscar nomination for directing SEVEN BEAUTIES, Wertmuller became the first woman to be nominated in that category.
