Rooted in the gentle and tranquil culture of Tibet, he is one of the most peaceful people alive, exemplifying Zen with his thoughtful and totally non-violent attempts to rule and free his threatened country to this date.
A few years ago, Williams seems to have taken a new route with his compositions and orchestrations, and it seems that he is going for less leitmotif-carried scores with a certain “hook”, instead taking an approach that creates more of a tapestry of music that blends with the images.
“Seven Years In Tibet” is a soaring adventure, and while it is disappointing that the film doesn’t really cover Tibet’s political history and implications, it reminds us once again of the merciless intrusion and oppression of communist China into foreign territories Vietnam and Hong Kong being other examples of recent times.

Folio Books: Review of Seven Years in Tibet by Heinrich Harrer (Putnam)
The title of the book is an accurate summary of its contents: Harrer's account of the seven years he spent living in the remote and then little-known country of Tibet after escaping from a British internment camp in India in 1943.
But it is possible that, whatever his previous opinions may have been, the years he spent living among the Tibetan people, observing their Buddhist way of life, and growing to know them and respect them, removed from his character any blemish of fascist feeling.
Perhaps Seven Years in Tibet can therefore be read not only for its intriguing description and understanding of a now almost lost civilisation, but also as an account of the power of human sympathy to change an individual for the better.

Seven Years in Tibet is a good film, yet it is fatally flawed by Hollywood tendencies.
One would think, with the title “Seven Years in Tibet”, that at least the majority of the film would revolve around said years…yet this is not the case, rather the film acts independently for half of its runtime before actually getting into a meaningful story.
Seven Years in Tibet has numerous scenic and environmental shots just overflowing in detail and they are all represented here perfectly.

Seven Years in Tibet also tries a little too hard to underscore Harrer's transformation by overemphasizing his negative traits at the beginning.
