Famous Univ. of Chicago Grads: Severn Darden
Severn Darden was born in New Orleans, educated at Mexico City College, and given his first professional acting opportunity at Virginia's Barter Theatre.
Severn's specialty was to play a German-accented professor who had expertise in everything.
Severn Darden, considered by his peers one of the most gifted comedic actors ever to grace a stage, once delivered a mock lecture, "Some Positive Aspects of Anti-Semitism," in the guise of prominent psychologist and Chicago professor Bruno Bettelheim.

Amusingly, Don is a good friend of the Russian spy Kropotkin (Severn Darden) and they work together to find Sidney.
The script works with his acting style perfectly, accommodating his lack of comedic timing by making Sidney the straight man while all those around him are the funny ones.

Severn Darden was born in New Orleans, educated at Mexico City College, and given his first professional acting opportunity at Virginia's Barter Theater.
A charter member of the Compass Theater, the improvisational group that would later evolve into Second City, Darden distinguished himself as an "intellectual" monologist, effortlessly weaving allusions to Freud and Kant into his hilariously nonsensical ramblings.
The peripatetic Severn Darden settled down long enough to appear as a TV-series regular on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1977; as Popesco), Beyond Westworld (1980; as Foley), and Take Five (1987; as psychiatrist Noah Wolf).

Godfrey Cambridge is hilarious as his cohort and former patient (his opening monologue about self-hatred is a classic), and so is Severn Darden, who plays a charming Russian agent.
It's funny but even when he's 'freaking out', due the extreme pressures of his position and that of being harassed by kidnappers and assassins, he still seems to maintain a somewhat suave and sophisticated demeanor, rolling with the situations as they come up.
Colburn is supported by a really excellent cast here, including Godfrey Cambridge as Don Masters, CEA agent and Severn Darden as Russian agent V.I. Kydor Kropotkin, characters, who, while on different sides, share an affable friendship and respect for each other.

When Coburn becomes expendable, he finds a pair of strong allies in the form of likeable political assassin Godfrey Cambridge and gay Soviet spy Severn Darden.

The President's Analyst (1967): James Coburn, Godfrey Cambridge, Severn Darden, Joan Delaney - PopMatters Film Review
Early in The President's Analyst, Wynn Quantrill (William Daniels), self-described political liberal, explains why he keeps his house -- perfectly secure, deep in the New Jersey suburbs -- packed with guns.
Soon this is boiled down to the two principal political players of the Cold War, when V.I. Kydor Kropotkin (Severn Darden), a Soviet spy, kidnaps Sidney by commandeering a yacht he's on and pointing it toward Mother Russia.
The idea, Kropotkin says, is for Sidney to defect, an act he tries to make sound less like a sellout to authoritarian communism than it might otherwise seem.
