The 'gooseneck' meander of the Fawn River (in the foreground with the clearer water) breached a narrow neck, so that a portion of its former channel is now used by the Severn River.
Typical of the many large rivers that cross the Hudson Bay Lowlands, these two expose, in the banks of their shallow channels, the thin cover of peat and the underlying 10 to 50 m of glacial sediments, which blanket the limestone and dolomite bedrock.
