Severomorsk (Russian: Северомо́рск) is a town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located about 25 km north of Murmansk.
Severomorsk has the largest dry dock in the Kola Peninsula.
The town status was granted in 1951; it was renamed Severomorsk at the same time.

Safonovo, which is between Murmansk and Severomorsk, is a naval yard for nuclear ballistic missile submarines and nuclear surface warship repair.
The Severomorsk area's largest floating dock is located at Safanovo, which undertakes repairs on the largest Northern Fleet submarines, including the Typhoon class.
Severomorsk, the Northern Fleet's main base, is situated on the Murmansk Fjord about 20 kilometers north of Murmansk.

Remains of four Kursk sailors were recovered last week, and four caskets, draped with the white-and-blue flag of the Russian Navy, were carried atop armored personnel carriers into a sea-front square under a cold, clear sky.
The divers were forced to enter through a hole they had cut earlier in the eighth compartment and grope their way along narrow passages into the ninth, he said.

When the launch control at Svobodny called out that "Severomorsk tracks the rocket" our own old sounding rocket tracking station at Esrange announced that they could see the pulse-telemetry spectrum on 203.34 MHz, just as the Russians had said.
We saw the telemetry transmitter (2208 MHz) on Odin directly after separation, but due to a very low antenna gain on the satellite (solar panels had not deployed and the orientation was unfavorable) we could not decode the TM.
The last one was Severomorsk at the Kola peninsula.

Archival reports and an interview with the SKR-56 captain and 2 crewmen indicate that Major Posa’s remains were offloaded in Severomorsk on October 19, 1960, shortly after 8:00AM.
The speedboat departed Severomorsk for Murmansk on October 20, 1960 with the wing wreckage aboard, but it is not clear if Major Posa’s remains were aboard or if they had been transported elsewhere separately.

Richardson's entourage was the first senior American delegation granted permission to visit what is one of Russia's largest, most sensitive nuclear naval bases.
