By 1853 the Sheriff gave notice that a county tax would be levied for "erection of a new courthouse." The justices met and agreed to raise $1500.00.
In 1841 a bridge was built across the Cossatot River on the road from Paraclifta to Rocky Comfort and in 1860 the county established a poor house for the area's paupers.
The county seat was moved from Lockesburg to De Queen in 1905 and a new courthouse was built.

The Sevier County Stars was organized in Sevier county, completing their organization on May 16, 1861, at Ultima Thule, Arkansas, with 82 men on the company roster.
Although the Arkansas State Brigade was heavily engaged in the battle, and suffered appalling casualties, the Fifth Regiment was held back for much of the battle, providing security for the Confederate artillery and functioning as a strategic reserve.
Some of the men enlisted in Co. G, 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles, and it is believed that a few ended up in one of the Texas Mounted Rifles regiments.
