  Naked Christs and Balaam's Ass
In the last two thousand years of Christian history, each age has illustrated the Bible in its own way, accentuating what it felt important, and neglecting the insignificant; indeed, much can be learned of the prevailing theology of an age by the kind of art it produces, and its attitude toward religious art in general.
When a Christian artist draws a portrait of Jesus serenely cradling children in his lap, the artist is portraying the gentleness and love of Christ, and this kind of portrait certainly has value—but in ignoring the tension implicit in the divine and human natures of Jesus, contemporary Christian art is often deeply unbiblical.
Indeed, the main act of Christian art must be to hold our hands to the flame, to reveal again, as if for the first time, the wonder and strangeness of the scriptural narrative as it sings the beautiful, and terrible, tale of the reckless love of God.

The Other Journal - What is Wrong with Capitalism? The Problem with the Problem with Capitalism by Daniel M. Bell, Jr.
Specifically, Christian critiques of capitalism are hindered because the problem of capitalism is typically posed empirically instead of confessionally, and it is posed empirically in a flawed manner.
For a long time, Christian opponents of capitalism were bold in their assertions that socialism was the alternative, and for a while (in the midst of the global revolutionary climate that blossomed in the 1960s and lingered into the 80s) that conviction was at least understandable.
Christian proponents of capitalism found their advocacy on the problematic eschatological claim that in effect capitalism is the best that we can expect in this time between the times.

Sexing the Body: Gender Politics and the Construction of Sexuality. - Review - book review Journal of Sex Research - ...
During the nineteenth century, however, the power to discipline sex and sexuality gradually shifted to the scientific and medical communities which took the lead in defining sex categories and what was normal with regard to sex, gender, and sexuality (Dreger, 1998; Herdt, 1996).
Among the most significant scientific influences on the reification of a theory of sexual dimorphism in the nineteenth century was the work of Charles Darwin.
Given the impact of our theoretical assumptions regarding sexual dimorphism, it is not surprising that the medical community (simultaneously reflecting and shaping the culture) has tended to view the birth of intersexuals as abnormal mutations and medical emergencies.

 Is there a Christian Art?
There is, of course, a kind of specifically Christian art used in and for worship, as we have seen in the descriptions of the Tabernacle and the Temple.
Art's value lies in the fact that it is Creation, but neither art nor the artist may be considered the Creator.
Art thus has an ethical aspect: it either contributes to human well-being or instigates the destruction of mankind or of Creation, as we can see in the art of National Socialism.

A concern with cultural phenomena on the periphery of European society--particularly sexuality, madness, spiritual punishment, violence, and alterity.
These cultures were not, by and large, urbanized, and their art reflected a very different pattern of life and religion from the city based civilizations that Europeans had incorporated into artwork previously.
It was with the rise of Modern art that primitivism gained a greater presence: in the context of the Modern, the "primitive" represented the libido, the "id" of psychoanalysis, as well as the unblemished and unrestrained sexuality associated with primitive tribes.
