  SEYAHATNAME: EVLIYA CELEBI
Seyahatname, a comprehensive collection of travel notes depicting life in the 17th century, is one of the most prominent examples of Turkish literature in that Evliya Celebi has fully employed his skill in using Ottoman Turkish, achieving a clear and fluent narration, reflecting on many interesting subjects.
Seyahatname is useful in reflecting the Ottoman Empire's relations with other states and in describing foreign cultures.
The first eight volumes of Seyahatname were published during 1896-1928 in Arabic, and the last two volumes were published during 1935-1938 in the Latin alphabet.

Seyahatname for the study of the Ottoman Empire and of the early modern Middle East and the Balkans.
Given its central importance, the fact that the bulk of it remains unedited, or poorly edited, is a source of frustration and even scandal.
Seyahatname can be divided into two periods: before and after Kreutel, the pivotal point being Kreutel’s 1972 article.

 Osmanli Tarihçileri - EVLİYA ÇELEBİ
E.Ç.’s great travelogue Seyahatname is a first person narrative in ten volumes, which combines the autobiography of its author with the most extensive geographical description of the Ottoman world.
Seyahatname is not exclusively based on its author’s personal experience, who had a superficial knowledge of the contemporary canon of historical literature.
Seyahatname is by far the best investigated text of Ottoman historiography and literature and remains a great source of information for all branches of Ottoman studies.

Evliya Çelebi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His collection of notes of all of his travels formed a ten-volume work called Seyahatname (Book of Travels).
Although many of the descriptions in this book were written in a quite exaggerated manner, his notes are widely accepted as a useful guide to the cultural aspects and life style of Ottoman Empire in the 17th century.
The Seyahatname contains the first transcriptions of many Caucasian languages and Tsakonian, and the only extant specimens of written Ubykh outside the linguistic literature.

I checked the University of Chicago library for Evliya Celebi book “Seyahatname.” I was much surprised to find copies of the original book printed in the old Turkish language, including a translation of the ten volume set into the new Turkish language, published in 1971.
In the introduction to his “Seyahatname” (which means "book of travel"), Evliya Celebi (1611-1680) tells of a dream he had in 1630, which became the reason he started to travel.
Locating the original write-up in the book “Seyahatname” would be quite helpful, because the author, Evliya Celebi, was supposed to have been an eye witness.

SEYAHATNAME is the Turkish word for 'travel diary'; and that is just what this site is about.
However, it is not a diary between the written page and me alone; it is in public space to share some of my experiences living in Istanbul for four months during this political/cultural/economic/religious climate with those that may find interest.
Women in my neighborhood, mostly those who live on the top floors of buildings, hang out their windows to send a basket attached to a rope chord down to the street level.

Robert Dankoff and Robert Elsie - Evliya Çelebi in Albania and adjacent regions
In the present volume, we have extracted his descriptions of these regions from the very extensive accounts of his peregrinations in the Balkans, covering much of Books V through VIII of his Seyahatname or Book of Travels.
The occasion of the first of these journeys was the transfer of Evliya's patron, Melek Ahmed Pasha, from the governorship of Bosnia (residence: Banja Luka) to that of Rumeli (residence: Sofia).
The Seyahatname contains a wealth of material on cultural history, folklore and geography from the countries Evliya Çelebi visited.
