The first poem is "Prayer" by Shabbir Banoobhai, an accountant with the Old Mutual in Cape Town.
It was written as a pre-dawn meditation on the third day of Ramadan last year, at the time of the American assault on Afghanistan.
Shabbir has several volumes of poetry in print, this is from the latest one, entitled Lightmail.
