  Shebelle River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shebelle River (with numerous spelling variations, including Shabele and Shabell, sometimes with Wabe or Webi prepended, Shabeelle in Somalia) begins in the highlands of Ethiopia, and then flows southeast into Somalia towards Mogadishu.
Most years the river dries up near the mouth of the Jubba River, while in seasons of heavy rainfall the river actually reaches the Jubba and thus the Indian Ocean.
In the past, the area of Shebelle River was very affected by tsetse, but it seems now to be eradicated at least in some parts of the Shebelle valley.

The Rer Bare (or Rerebere, Adona) are a tribe in Ethiopia's eastern Ogaden region on the Shabele River, near Somalia, who currently speak Somali.
According to the Ethnologue, "it is uncertain if they spoke a different language earlier"; if so, it is extinct.

The ICRC has this week launched an emergency relief operation for the victims of flooding in Somalia brought about by torrential rains that have caused the Shabele and Juba rivers to overflow their banks.
ICRC pilots transporting humanitarian aid have reported that, in some places, the rivers are eight kilometres wider than usual.
Further north along the Juba river, staff have been flown in to the town of Buale in order to gather precise information on the number of victims and devise the best way to reach them.
