Topic: Shadda

In the News (Fri 17 Feb 12)

  ch13c-index
It is noteworthy that, as with the ‘dagger-alif’, the shadda is used massively to ‘extend’ the consonantal symbol texts.
The shadda is obviously used for the purpose of ‘extending’ the ‘original’ consonantal symbol texts to allow the ‘new readings’ to be used.
And, also declared by the presence of all these shaddas is the evidence that Islam has been using ‘hodge-podge’ versions, a mixture of readings.

 The Arabic Alphabet: Vowels
It sits above the letter which is not followed by a vowel.
Shadda represents doubling (or gemination) of a consonant.
Where the same consonant occurs twice in a word, with no vowel between, instead of using consonant + sukūn + consonant, the consonant is written only once, and shadda is written above it.

 Learn arbic: lesson 4
Shadda is not a letter of the alphabet, it is just a mark written above a consonnant to indicate that it is stressed twice in the pronunciation of a given word.
As we mentioned in the last lessons the letters take different shape based on their position in the word.
Shadda occurs in uttering two consecutive syllables, the first of wich ends in a consonant and the second starts with the same consonant.

) the Battle of Nar Shadda was when the local Moff attempted to wipe out the smuggler’s moon however the Hutt’s bribed the man leading the attack (Admiral Winstel Greelanx) into giving them the plans for his attack.
From those plans Han Solo, Mako Spince and some other smugglers formed a counter attack with almost every smuggler on the moon but what they DIDN’T know is that Admiral Greelanx had received orders to fail anyway from an anonymous source.
Han had entered the atmosphere of Nar Shadda through the hole, which the Peacekeeper had made in the shield, only moments before TIE Bomber’s and TIE’s began pouring through it.

A) I have a question regarding stopping on a word ending with the letter "ya" first with a shadda and secondly without a shadda.
When stopping on the word Nabi (prophet), in the recitation of Hafs, I have heard while listening to the verse that the reader ends by saying "Nabiyy" (with a sukoon on the "ya") with a little emphasis since there is a shadda.
However in surah al qiyamah verse 26, when stopping on the word " At taraqiya" (which does not have a shadda) instead of stopping with a sukoon on the "ya', the reader reads "taraaqii" with a 2 vowel count (please correct me if I am wrong).

Is there a specific rule that suggest that those two letters not carry the shadda?
The hamzah can acquire a shaddah and does in the Arabic language, but it is quite heavy in pronunciation and there is no occurrence of the hamzah with a shaddah in the Glorious Qur’an.
