Imprint Online: Arts - Michael Bryson Review
The title story of 13 Shades of Black and White deals with family life.
Some of the sections of this story fit in with Bryson’s overall sexual theme, like for example in section seven the narrator writes, “Sean rolls over, feels his erection, pulls and pulls and pulls” which is a quote that seems totally out of place to the rest of the story.
If you would like to meet the author of 13 Shades of Black and White this is your chance.

 Theater Shades of black
The truths let loose here, in a story bounded by pride, poverty, alcohol, Southern swelter, and resentments that snake back generations, are painful.
The art of Orlandersmith’s story is in its telling, at an earthy yet dreamy once-remove that blunts its incipient melodrama.
But this is no strident exposé of divisions within the black community.

Latest NZ Novels - What Happen Then, Mr Bones, by Charlotte Randall: Rhythm by Rebekah Palmer, Love In Shades of Grey by Glynne MacLean and Music from a Distant Room by Stephanie Johnson - reviews, links and opinions, book club reading suggestions
It is a story of courage and bravery as she struggles with her declining health to see her opera through to completion, and becomes increasingly intertwined in this unusual relationship and binding contract with this man. A gripping story involving the seedy prostitution world, murder, music and creativity, and ill health and dying.
But Love in Shades of Grey is ultimately a positive and life affirming read.

ZGram - May 23, 2004 - Next time you hear an atrocity story..."
It later turned out that the much-publicized "eyewitness" was the daughter of a Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States, that she had not even been in Kuwait at the time the atrocity was said to have been committed, and that her story was entirely concocted.
For example, for almost fifty years it was claimed (and is still claimed by many non-specialists) that the skin of murdered Jews was tanned by certain Nazis and used to make book covers and lamp shades.
Atrocity propaganda is one of the hallmarks of modern warfare, due mostly to the development of the mass media.

"These Old Shades" is a classic love-story, but neither the hero nor the heroine are the traditional characters you would expect.
Many Heyer devotees love THESE OLD SHADES -- and you will too, if the union between a dissipated middle-aged rakehell/duke and a bratty seventeen-year-old waif/firebrand is your idea of romantic heaven.
Everytime I read it I want to be there, at that time, with all the hardshipd and all the glory, because these are the elements Ms Heyer expresses so well and I can say no more than I love her for it.
