Pryce was the son of a policeman and was born in Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales.
His first race on May 12 for the Token team resulted in 20th Position on the grid at Spa-Francorchamps, retiring in the race with suspension failure.
At that moment, cars driven by Pryce and Hans-Joachim Stuck suddenly appeared, nearly side-by-side.

The car was raced in the British national F1 series (the "Formula One Award") by Tiff Needell (nowadays of Top Gear fame) in 1979.
First Shadow cars that appeared on the track were CanAm prototype racing cars, but in 1973, after AVS had set up a base in England, the first Shadow F1 car was presented: the Tony Southgate designed DN1.
The 1979 Shadow DN9-2B in this picture (supplied by Shadow Promotions, Rupert C Kent) is negotiating a corner on the Monza circuit in Italy in one of the rounds for the 2000 Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship.

The following types of Shadow were manufactured for (or used in) the 3-litre F1.
Note that some cars were converted to a later specification: such as a Lotus 87 being converted to Lotus 92 specification.
So in the example of the Lotus 87, any starts for that car while in Lotus 92 specification will be allocated to the Lotus 87 range.

This particular car was raced during the 1983 season, with Pierpaolo Ghinzani and one race driven by Carlo Fabi.
Was a spare car in the 1980 Argentina, Brazil GP.
The car was immediately very competitive and with grids of 30-40 cars it always qualified in the top quarter, finishing 7th first time out at Brands GP and winning the Autosport "Star Drive".

Shadow racing cars were the brainchild of American Don Nichols, and made their big splash in the 1970's, beginning with the Can-Am series.
The Polistil F1 car pictured here is clearly labeled as a DN4 model but all the photos I have seen and the team's (unofficial) website says that this is a DN5 from the 1975 season driven by Tom Pryce and JP Jarier.
Shadow hung on until the F1 team was sold in 1980.

In other news Niall Dow proposed to his partner in spectacular fashion by having "Will you marry me Alary" sign written on the side of 2 of the GT Racing shadow cars and driving round the track to meet her at the start line where, thankfully she said "Yes" to his proposal.
Unfortunately qualifying was cut short due to a crash leaving the GT RADIAL Race Car in fourth spot on the grid for the first race of the season.

The cars were run again in 1974 for Oliver and Follmer and finished 1-2 in the CanAm series with Oliver scoring four wins in five races, although opposition that season was not good and the series died out at the end of the year.
This was raced by Jarier without success in Austria and Italy and it was then decided that the engines would be used exclusively by Ligier in 1976.
The car was not competitive but de Angelis finished fourth in the US Grand Prix at the end of the year and then upset the team by moving to Lotus, breaking his Shadow contract.
