Shadowbane isn't totally about PvP, but if killing other players in a MMORPG sounds silly, then this is definitely not a game for you.
The marketing for Shadowbane goes on about the "game of thrones" and making a difference in a dynamic world, and while few players will really be that influential, the game certainly is dynamic in a way completely new to online RPGs.
Shadowbane runs on Wolfpack's own Arcane Engine, which is suited for loading up lots of data on the fly and getting it onto the screen quickly.

In Shadowbane, leveling is one of the easiest things you can do.
You don't really need to do that in Shadowbane because it's easy to get experience going solo, and when you need to start joining parties, there is no experience penalty to deal with.
Overall, Shadowbane was probably the only RPG I've played where I always had money, never really had to worry about leveling, but always had to worry about who was going to backstab me or take my stuff.

What makes Shadowbane so different from other titles of the genre is that once you've completed the initial character creation, you're presented with extra choices later in the game to enhance your character, including the development of disciplines and the use of runestones to enhance your character.
There's a siege system in Shadowbane that had many players excited as the idea of massive wars against cities was something we all couldn't wait to see.
Overall, I'd say that Shadowbane will prove interesting to most players for a brief period (when they can log in to play), but most will give up after the courtesy free trial period and return to better games such as Dark Age of Camelot or one of the myriad of new titles in the pipeline.
