Other controversial figures rehabilitated by Zia included Shah Azizur Rahman, who during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, had traveled around the world to appeal against support to the Bengalis (including an infamous address to the United Nations) as late as December, as the war was drawing to a close.

This is very true, sad demise of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a few others were not ordinary deaths or killings, they lost their lives in armed confrontation during the popular uprising that was organized to bring a political change in the country.
Shah Azizur Rahman, the then Prime Minister very clearly brought out the political aspects of the downfall of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his speech.

I still remeber a close friend of mine, who used to be a bitter critic of Gen. Ziaur Rahman and a strong supporter of Bongobondhu, went to attend his (Gen. Zia's) Namaz-e-Janaza on the day of his (Gen. Zia's) burrial.
In response to my question, he said that he was going for two reasons: (1) to attend the burrial of the President of Bangladesh and (2) to express the army coup leaders his hatred against killings.
