There is a theory that this name replacement happened because, before the game of chess came to Europe, merchants coming to Europe brought ornamental chess kings as curiosities and with them their name shāh, which Europeans mispronounced in various ways.

Sassa hereupon bethought himself of a rare the invention of an ancient Grecian sage name Hermes which had recently been introduced India by Alexander and his soldiers who to play it at times of leisure.
I have to agree with both of the previous reviews: i was hoping there would be a copy of the DTE video as well, and the video does seem slightly out of sync.however: it's a great insight into the band and how they worked.

My theory then, is that Jahangir may have indeed remembered Khusrau's words and said them about Kashmir at a particularly awe-struck moment.
One would be better off writing about say Darwin and criticise the theory of evolution, instead of criticising the likes of Zia-ul-Haq.

The earliest references to the game are found in the Mahabharata written circa 500 BC, while the modern version of Chaturanga has been played since 600 CE or earlier, hence Chaturanga is most commonly believed to be the oldest version of chess.
There's even a theory that suggest a Chinese origin (Xiangqi) and notice of a strange chess-like game in Ancient Egypt.
One ancient Persian text refers to Shah Ardashir, who ruled from 224—241 CE, as a master of the game.

Chaos theory tells us that even random systemic phenomenon contain unlimited amounts of information, for example, there is an infinite stream of information encoded in the random dripping of a leaky faucet or in the decimal expansion of pi.

Of course, the translators' and editors' comments reveal as much about their own world view as they do about the texts, and the focus often shifts away from the stories to the point they are trying to make.
