The party unit would contest the Government’s decision to rename Amethi after Chatrapati Shahuji Maharaj who has no relevance in Uttar Pradesh, through political means and its frontal organisations led by its State levels and local Dalit leaders would hold protest demonstration in the district, Congress spokesman Akhilesh Singh said here yesterday.
The advocates of the new district yesterday boycotted court work demanding that the area which came into prominence only when it came to be represented by former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi who had also floated the idea of making it a full fledged district should be named after him.
Shahuji Maharaj has no contribution in this part of the country and therefore has no relevance here, they said adding that they were not averse to moving the court for the purpose.

The BSP leader, Mayawati, during her three stints as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had taken numerous decisions that, though only symbolic in nature, aimed at enhancing the sense of pride of her Dalit constituency.
The creation of the new units, however, brought about such other changes as development of smaller towns as district headquarters bringing in the associated army of officials, judges and lawyers to these towns and giving a proportionate boost to the local economy.

Soon after Mayawati’s announcement Wednesday to rename Amethi, a stronghold of Gandhi family, as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar after according it a district status, voice of dissent emerged from Amethi with senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Sanjai Singh denouncing it.
Singh, a former MP from the constituency, whose wife Amita Singh is an MLA from Amethi Assembly constituency and also a minister in the Mayawati Government, claimed that he had been assured by the BJP leadership that the name of Amethi would not be changed.

The Sunday Tribune - Spectrum - Books
It is amazing to note that the ambition and the struggle launched by Shivaji had such an irresistible force that the adversities that befell the Marathas could not stop three generations from spreading the power of the descendants of Shivaji and also the Maratha people.
The book ostensibly is the story of Baji Rao, the Peshwa of Shahuji, but in truth it is a chronicle of the times when in a burst of creative energy the Marathas established their authority over what was Mughal India.
His loyalty was firmly first for Sambhaji, the younger branch of Shivaji, and then inalienably for Shahuji, Balaji Rao had correctly assessed that Shahuji did not have the vigour of his grandfather to run an autocracy, and therefore it would be different for him to run an army whose officers were salaried.
