Boulevard Elementary (1914) is the oldest building in the district, Shaker Middle School (1957) (formerly known as Byron Junior High School) is the newest; the average age of buildings currently in service is approximately seventy-three years old.
Shaker Heights is considered a progressive school system in its approach to education and social balance.
Shaker was among the first school systems in the United States to actively pursue school desegregation in the early 1960s by neighbors of Ludlow Elementary School.

The county auditor became responsible for the maintenance of maps in 1872 when a statute directed the county commissioners to require the surveyor to prepare maps and plats of the original surveys in a format suitable for preservation an stipulated that such material be stored in the auditor’s office.
Certain duties were imposed by statute upon the county auditor in 1917 in respect to the registration and licensing of dogs and dog kennels, the issuance of certificates of registration and transfer of ownership, and the keeping of a permanent record in a dog and kennel register.
The county auditor’s term of office was changed to four years in 1921 and his salary was made proportional to the population of a county, although it could not exceed six thousand dollars annually.
