Benjamin Shambaugh printed a report on the Madison meeting along with the new MVHA constitution in the 1908 issue of a new journal he edited, the Iowa Journal of History and Politics (13).
Shambaugh, a native Iowan who obtained a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1893 and a Ph.D. from the Wharton School of Finance and Economy at the University of Pennsylvania in 1895, founded the Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa.
Shambaugh defined a state historical society as a “laboratory of scientific historical research.” Like Paine, Shambaugh was committed to creative communications with the public that even included doing a film documentary of the Marquette and Joliet 1673 trip down the Mississippi.

 Reward Offered in Shambaugh, Iowa Dog Poisoning Case
DES MOINES, IowaThe Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poisoning a dog on Main Street in Shambaugh, Iowa around September 7.
Page County Sheriff Mike Williams told The HSUS that he later learned that a total of seven dogs had been poisoned within a 2-3 week period, leading to the deaths of several of the dogs.
The non-profit organization, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2004, is based in Washington, DC and has 10 regional offices across the country.

The award is named in honor of Mildred Throne, long-time editor of the Iowa Journal of History and Politics, and Charles Aldrich, founder of the Annals of Iowa.
Receiving the Throne-Aldrich award for the best article in the Annals of Iowa was Michael A. Ross for his article, "Justice for Iowa: Samuel Freeman Miller's Appointment to the United States Supreme Court during the Civil War," published in the Spring 2001 issue.
