		In the small village of Shanagarry, near the sea in east Cork, he has gathered around him a group of highly skilled craftspeople, carrying on a craft tradition which has survived in the area for hundreds of years.
		In Shanagarry village, Stephen digs local clay for the pottery and harvest peat for the firing of each piece which goes through 18 individual hand processes.
		While Stephen learned the art of pottery from his father, his mother, one of Ireland's finest cooks, had a tremendous influence on the design of his pottery rejecting casseroles or plates for the family kitchen which were not simple or functional enough.
