The title character is Shanda Bruin, a Chinese-American panda who is the manager of a movie theater in a small city named Cedar Rabbits.
An important story arc is her romantic relationships with a cajun raccoon nicknamed Double R and her lesbian cricket bartender lover, Terri.
The comic was originally published by Mu Press, where Shanda first appeared as part of the comic anthology A Very MU Christmas in 1992.

Eventually, the job became too dangerous, and Mike left to pursue a career in comics.
In the 1980's he had been the main writer for Harvey Comics (RICHIE RICH, CASPER) and now used his theater experiences to create SHANDA THE PANDA, the comic series about a panda theater manager.
His wife Carole created an adventure series entitled KATMANDU based on Native American legends, and the couple began a comic publishing imprint, SHANDA FANTASY ARTS.

 Fantasy & Furrydom!
In the last few years, I've gotten into Japanime and more recently, Manga.
I stick mostly to Oh My Goddess, Katmandu, Shanda the Panda, Animal Mystic, and a few others.
If the artwork catches my eye, I'll more than likely buy the comic and/or the whole series, but I absolutely must like the art!

 Pseudo Comments - Opinions: If SnowBuni had crossovers...
A visit by the Extinctioners would prove interesting as well.
Independant Lapine Republic, and snowbuni being a bunny, it would be a hard sf/moral story to write.
The problem here being that the Shanda the Panda universe is populated by anthropomorphs...

Maybe you could get Goeffrey from Toys “R” Us to peddle the comics on nationally televised commercials during Saturday morning cartoons.
